Why are flip flops called flip flops when it should be flip flip, or flop flop? They're both the same.?

Actually...they only slap slap...never seen them flip or flop. That would infer that they actually leave the foot, and preform a revolution.

No. They Flip up and Flop down. Listen carefully and you will hear.
Reply:each one flips and flops in turn, but you have to listen carefully!
Reply:good question. and if you start walking with the other foot first does that make it Flop Flips?
Reply:No there not. If you listen closely there is 2 different sounds, due to the wait on the foot. Before and after hitting the ground. I must be bored .

Reply:as you walk they flop down on the ground and flip back up to your foot
Reply:Thats funny. Most of my life we called them thongs. Can't do that anymore.
Reply:the left foot is the flip and the right foot is the flop, thus flip flops. on those occasion when the person is left handed they are allowed to call them flop flips. this is socially acceptable.
