My friend claims that it is illegal in Illinois to drive with flip flops
tell me people is this true?
Is it really illegal to drive with flip flops or is it just a rumor?
Well, illegal or not, it IS unsafe to drive with flipflops. There isn't much support and your foot could slip over top and your flipflop could slip underneath the brake pedal for example which could cause you to be unable to move your foot to the accelerator.
Flipflops slide around on your feet and therefore don't provide the stability you need for your pedal controls.
Just carry a more stable shoe in your car for the summer and change.....like a sandal with more straps for example......
Reply:highly unlikely although it is more dangerous cause your flip flop can get stuck on the pedal and its also more slippery just drive barefoot if you plan to wear flip flops or better yet have a extra pair of shoes in the car.
Reply:Believe it or not, in some states it's against the law to drive with any type of shoe that does not have a hard sole and a heal. That even rules out tennis shoes. Just one of those laws that are hardly ever enforced, but are on the books, if the cop wants to be a hard a**.
Reply:Yes, it is illegal and very dangerous. The darn things can get stuck under the gas pedal and prevent your foot from moving to the brake pedal. They can also come off and get stuck under the brake pedal making braking almost impossible.
Reply:i don't know about Illinois but i seriously doubt it. in Texas it is illegal to drive barefoot, but it's an antiquated law that isn't enforced
Reply:I've never heard of this being illegal in any state. I would prefer to drive with a different type of shoe on, and take these along with me. I would just feel safer, especially on a long trip.
Reply:No it is not illegal to drive with them but they can cause accidents more so than driving with shoes...
