Should students be able to wear tank tops and flip-flops to school?

our school has a dress code that sais that the sleeves of our shirts have to be at least three fingers wide, we have to wear closed toe shoes and it get really hot here in fairfield and it would be nice not to melt out side in a t-shirt, a spagetti strap would be nice or flip-flops. is the dress code fair???

Should students be able to wear tank tops and flip-flops to school?
i think that all schools should require uniforms. it makes it easy for the parents who have to purchase every new trend that their kids want for school. you should be focused on learning and getting good grades, not on how good you look in your new clothes. sure, you can wear other clothes on the weekends so you can show your unique individuality.
Reply:I know that it sucks having a dress code, but like i kind of understand the schools policy on no tank tops, I mean what are the first things most guys look at? Boobs. Seriously, the tank tops show off girl's chests. but the whole sandal thing is kinda dumb.
Reply:depending on the age level. my elementary school had a very similar dress code, but in jr high %26amp; hs it didn't really matter. i think that depeding on the shirt or shoes it should be up to the individual teacher, so no, it's not fair, especially in fairfield!
Reply:uniforms -are you there to learn or to flash? What will you wear to work??
Reply:spaghetti straps,%26amp; flip-flops I understand.that's a matter of possible sexual harassment %26amp; safety,respectively.

but no TANK TOPS! ....the school officials must be on a lil bit of sum sumthin funny, yah know what I mean?
Reply:You can't wear flip-flops because of safety issues.

Sleeves that are only "three fingers wide" are barely there.

What would you have done if you were made to wear the dresses and petticoats of the 1800's or the dresses of even the 1960's....you know students weren't always wearing jeans %26amp; t-shirts.

There is nothing wrong with the school requiring you to wear apropreaite clothing, you will have to wear uniforms or other apropreaite attire when you get a job. No big deal...fun clothes are for your time off. School is your job, learning is your task. You are not there for entertainment, meeting boys or hanging out with your friends. Your there to learn...so quit worrying about your clothes.

Clothes don't make the woman. The woman makes the clothes.
Reply:the tank is fair, the shoe code is not. they probably dont want the girls to have their bra straps showing.
Reply:i never understood the tank tops rule...i dont know anyone who would get off on seeing someones shoulder. but i think the cleavage is more of a problem. and the flip flop rule is retarded too, we dont have that one at my school :]
Reply:When you get into college you can wear whatever you want! Let that be a motivation to get you to go to college.lol. Every person has gone through this. I live in Southern California and when I was in school they had the same rules. Just be happy you don't have to wear a uniform.
Reply:Dress code in school is to prepare a student for the working world. When passing through a work enviroment, office, i.e.; medical, dentist, a clerk in a clothing store, when was the last time you saw an employee wearing, spagettii straps, flip-flops, hoods? This is not a lecture just a reminder that all establishments have their own dress code(s).
Reply:Yes. Mostly for safety reasons (the flip flops). The rest is TOO distracting. Not productive to learning.
Reply:yes- I've seen the way kids without dress code dress- you have no business walking around with your bra straps showing- let alone if you are a bustier girl and those straps dont hold up-dress codes need to be in tact.the flip flops- do exactly that..they flip and flop off your feet and have little more than a piece of plastic as the sole, which could easily have something jagged go through(such as a nail) and wouldn't protect your foot from broken glass. No one is out there just trying to upset your wardrobe-there have been too many "wrong" occurrences that put these rules into action.grow up and dont dress trashy-you there for an education..not a boyfriend-try to remember that sometimes.
Reply:Personally, I have a strong dislike for schools that focus more on what the kids are wearing than on education.

As long as privates aren't being shown, and there are no distractions to students' learning, whatever the student is wearing should be acceptable for a public school.

If the student is not showing off their 6 pack abs or how big their areolas are, then a tank top should be fine.

The average person hates to wear shoes. Myself included. With that being said, why should anyone worry if a student has flip flops on? Work dress codes even allow nicer thong sandals now, and flip flops on Casual Friday. There is no difference between a thong sandal and one that has one thin line over your foot. Feet are no longer private parts.
Reply:Theres enough distraction there already..I know i wouldn't be concentrating on studying..
Reply:well that sucks!!! in our school, we can wear flip flops...but not spagetti straps...i wish we could...i wonder who made up that stupid dress-code thing anyway? well no, it's not fair
Reply:No its not fair like a boy is going to be distracted from his work because you have arm pits ..teenagers see what they want to see anyways
Reply:When I was in high school, and a new principle came in and tried to enforce a strict dress code. Us as students got the community to step in, but we were lucky to have a supportive community.

We came to terms, where no tank tops that show bra straps (spag. straps were allowed if you wore a strapless bra, no limit on shorts, however, your underware nor your butt cheeks were allowed to show. We also faught to wear sandles and flip flops, which I never understood what the problem was. Oh and our shirts had to be long enough to cover the top of our pants/shorts by like an inch or something.

Good luck!!!
Reply:Yes! Though I'm already High School graduate, I don't understand how society wants us to pay "adult" tickets at the movies, permit students to have jobs, drive cars and make responsible decisions but refuse to allow them to wear something simple as a spagetti strap and flip flops. Get it together!
Reply:tank tops are available in three finger wide straps.. wear those

and about the shoes... they're allowed at my school...

(and we're one of the smartest schools)
Reply:Yes. But some girls like dress like badly and grossly so they do it for you. But i have the same rule and we should get more chances. And for the flip flops THERE SHOES LET US WEAR THEM
Reply:I know exactly what u r going through....at my school...they were going to ban pony tails....becuz they said they could be dangerous if a girl turned and hit u with her hair...and people flick others with them....but they never followed it up......and i am glad....i believe that u should be able to wear what u want....as long as it is not provocitive.......like midrifts or going to school in shorts as short as underwear...but limits are good but when limits are taken to where u feel u arent having ur freedom...it is too much....
Reply:Ah it's all about "structure" they give you rules because they can. Also, teachers and staff don't have to worry about those rules. I think dress-codes are bad, but people are so crazy these days that if you don't tell them exactly what to wear they dress like prostitutes or thugs. I dunno. There are two sides to every coin. It's probably for the best but it's a pain in the butt.
Reply:Fairfield isn't that hot girl. Relax. When you get home you wear what you want, but while you're getting your free education at the public school wear what they say. Would you rather wear a uniform? Shirts with collars, skorts to your knee? Socks with penny loafers? At least you get to choose what you wear and you're not in a uniform so quit griping.
Reply:that is stupid you should be able to wear that especially when its so damn hot outside!
Reply:HECK NO I would want to wear a tank top and flip flops if it was really hot

sunburns
