Why do obese people, like myself, wear flip flops more often than regular shoes?

This is something I have noticed lately. Even though it is the end of December, I can go out somewhere and see many overweight and obese people wearing either clogs or flip flops. I wear both myself, but for no particular reason.

Why do obese people, like myself, wear flip flops more often than regular shoes?
I'm not obese but I have a theory. I think its a comfort thing. Obese people tend to have thick ankles, clogs and flip flops allow for more room, less confinement, and therefore are more comfortable.
Reply:I dunno maybe they cannot be bothered to reach down and tie up the shoelaces because it would be a bit far to reach?

although i wear thongs wayy too often and that makes my feet wide also bear feet so i wear 'flip flops' :P often i do wear heels occasionally but my feet are wide so i dont

so maybe their feet are too big to fit into pretty heels (the girls) or they just couldnt be bothered putting on shoes like joggars because its such an effort.. and also their thick ankles they are more free to move in flippy flops :P

hope my opinion helps with your question =] take care xxxx
Reply:It's easier to slip into them than left their feet
Reply:i think that its the best thing to do. I mean no offense on them being overweight but look at whats more convenient -%26gt; just grab flipflops and slip it on...versus sitting down trying to bend to put on shoes.....
Reply:Perhaps they are more comfortable or regular shoes hurt your feet because of the size.
Reply:i can't figure out why anyone wears shower shoes anywhere but in a public shower... its retarded... they should drink more beer
Reply:I think it's just you seeing things. I have seen many girls in university wear flip flops who were not over weight but wore them because they were comfortable.
Reply:easy to put on... nice and cool for your feet (im from australia)
Reply:coz flip flops prevent physical exercise. sneakers are more conducive to climbing stairs, hiking, running, etc. flip flops subconsciously serve as an excuse not to engage in such physical endeavors.
Reply:Because their ankles swell in normal shoes...when I was heavily pregnant I wore them too.
Reply:well...not to be mean, but the fact that they are obese shows that they're lazy. Yes i know genetics can have an effect on body weight, but if they are just eating whatever they want and not exercising (taking in more than they're burning) then they probably have this lax attitude elsewhere in their lives, including fashion. flip flops show a laid back, carefree attitude that isn't trying to impress anyone.

and also maybe that obese people have a harder time tieing shoelaces?
Reply:They don't require any bending to put on and they will stretch to fit almost any size foot. I feel bad for them because it's cold in the winter and they probably wear flip flops out of necessity instead of fashion.
Reply:i see many skinny people wearing flip flops aswell... weird question you must be bored
Reply:I am also obese but have not noticed people wearing flip flops and don't wear them myself. As a result of my size, much of which is in my middle, I can't reach my feet to tie regular shoes. I will wear loafers or sandals and use an extra long shoe horn to help me get the shoes on. If I do wear shoes that tie, I ask someone to help me put them on. When I last played golf at about 500 pounds, I asked the friendly locker room attendant to help. I played raquetball last at about 550 and had to have help with my tennis shoes. That brought out some laughs. I have found ways to get my shoes on that work so all is well. I do love my size and also know that as long as my feet are comfortable, that is great. Of course when I walk (actually waddle), I don't see my feet any more so it is key to at least be able to feel where they are going.
